I priced it out with a 9900K, 32 Gigs, Windows 10 Pro, 1 TB 970 SSD, RTX 2080 , 17.3 QFHD 3840×2160, Killer 1550 Wifi, no optical, carbon wrap and the price came up to $7546 or 147.01 per week. I think I'll wait for the 3rd Gen Ryzen.

Such a beast of a machine. If the Area 51m turns out to be a bad performer this is definitely gonna be my weapon of choice. I've decided I want a mobile desktop. So something like this is on my short list.

Do you have a desktop 2080? Would be nice to see this against a desktop.

Oh and thank you for bringing the Witcher 3 back to the tests. I still play this from time to time since there are so many missions. One day I'll finish it. So it's nice to know how it performs.

Chuck Norris wants his jet engine back! LOL! Not surprising that the 2080 doesn't OC too much, as it's similar in the desktop versions of Turing. I guess we're so used to Pascal when overclocking. Same thing happened when going from Maxwell to Pascal. None the less, it's quite a nice laptop you Aussie's make! Though, I did have to laugh when you mentioned and showed the "subwoofer"! Excellent review Jarrod. As always, I appreciate how thorough your information is.
Have a great day!

A bit gimmicky, or maybe just i can't afford it.
How about the idea of making a comparison between desktop 2060 and laptop 2060 when you get them in the same period or at different periods? it's up to you though i just thought it's interesting to see the difference in practice(gaming), (CPU and Ram difference could be neglected of course in gaming).

I think that QHD 120 Hz panel is appropriate for this beast of a laptop…incredible pixel density and responde time..better than 1080p 144 Hz….AGREE?

my laptop chassis almost the same .This chassis is not suitable for 90watt cpu's i have i7 7700k and gtx 1080 in my config. i suggest you all to go for sli chassis..(a higher model) with single gpu as it uses vapor chamber cooling and has separate heat pipes. if you still want this one then i prefer go with a non "K" cpu models.Even better if you paired with i5 . @jarrod you can check specs (gpuz)on this laptop…this one probably has a rtx 2080 mxm.

I wish Clevo/Sager introduced a thin 2080 MQ laptop this year, but I don't think that's happening. I guess MSI GS65 it is

    this is a Failure laptop….and here's why :
1- u cant use it at his full potential …u have to undervolte or underclock….otherwise he will do it by himself for sure
2- u cant at all put it in ur lap …with all these heat continue..
3- max fan all the time (cuz simply no water cooler for this kind of heat )
4- u will find urself make it to be always under 4Ghz….cuz no any soultion for stopping kick it to 90C (whats the point then to have it then ?)
5- talking about overclocking ???? i think ur joking ( ask a pc person to overclock his high end cpu by stock fan only )
6- 1 hr battery life ….means always should be stick to A/c electrical

in the end u will realize…that u took a beast and u just lock him in cage …with no unleash at all

Gpu temp seems a bit high with 85C, think it would be cooler if paired eith a 9700k? Overall firestrike score is a bit low, how much did you get for graphics? It should get 25-26k graphics score by default…also, what kind of thermal paste did you use?

    thnx,great review
as it was samples, you couldn't delid and change the TIM and repaste CPU+GPU plus pasting pad which would've helped the thermals and thus better performance.
also you could've disabled 9900K hyperthreading and make it like 9700K(as many has suggested) and get no throttling.
Notebookcheck has already tested it with 9700K and in battlefield V rtx-off,with 9700K+rtx2080, stock system, achieve 148FPS on 1080P and 115FPS on 1440P

Crazy Power but underwhelming cooling. Thanks Jarrod for your hard work. It would be nice to see a RTX 2070 laptop vs 1070 laptop comparison. 🙂

You think you can make a video of good laptops for strictly gaming above 100fps at 1080p without breaking the bank. I'm new to all this but from what I understand o could get away with the 2060or 70 right. My game of choice is RL so I know it wouldn't take much to hey my frame rate up on that game but I dabble in other games I'd like to run well also.

I'm actually pretty surprised the battery lasted that long. Are you going to get Anthem? Regardless of the quality of the game, for benchmarking it might be a good one to use. From what I've played it's pretty CPU intensive. It's on the Frostbite engine so it has pretty good support for multi threaded CPU's. Just a suggestion, still I'm not completely sure if it's really that hardware intensive or just badly optimized. I saw a video of a guy playing Anthem on a 9900K at 5ghz and a 2080Ti. But at 4K he still couldn't get even a solid 60 FPS.
